From Haridwar, we drove to Rishikesh, about 25 kilometers away, in the foothills of the Himalayas. We parked our car on one side of the Ganga, did some sightseeing, crossed the famous Lakshman Jhoola and went over to the other side for more sightseeing, attended the Aarti at Parmarth Ashram, and came back via the Ram Jhoola, a new bridge running parallel to the Lakshman Jhoola.

Some images from the streets of Rishikesh:
The aarti at Parmarth Ashram is something you MUST experience at least once in your life. A big group of children and their teachers sing bhajans, and everyone watching is welcome to join in. At the end of all the singing, the aarti begins, and the aarti plates are handed around - everyone can take a turn.
Since Rishikesh is lovely for adventure sports, yoga, ayurveda and such, it makes sense to stay in a hotel there, and visit Haridwar, instead of doing the reverse like we did.
Both Haridwar and Rishikesh are lovely in their own ways, but I personally loved Haridwar much more, because everything about it is so old and quaint, and wherever you go, and whatever you do, you feel a very strong sense of history. I think I might have felt the same about Rishikesh if it wasn't as touristy as it is.
Very nice pics madhu. I want to do these places as well..Very soon :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Sharanya :) You SHOULD go - both are lovely towns, but try and go when it gets colder - the winter there is absolutely lovely
ReplyDeleteMadhu, these are amazing photos!! I showed them to my husband, too, who is a travel photographer and we were both very impressed. Thank you so much for your visits and comments! Have a lovely week. – g
ReplyDeletehey !
ReplyDeletenice, clear snaps ... what camera do you have ? and have these been resized ?
I just saw all the snaps , and went to your posts.
Actually, I feel Phd is very gruelling .. it is easy for people to just say what they do about academics & women, but they don't realise that PhD has a lot of tensions associated with it.
I know what you mean by the identity issue .. (Hyderabad and Chennai) ... and sad it is that neither city acknowledges you once you leave your home state ... but I take my issue as I belong to 2 cities at the same time ... :)
Will be back with more comments after reading earlier posts .. ok then !
Thank you so much, Georgianna :) Does your husband post his photographs somewhere? I would love to see his work!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the visit and comment Deepa! I have appropriated my husband's Nikon D200 now hehehe, but I shot the images in this post with my Nikon D40 :) PhD - I know - I did a one year research project, and got so stressed out by the end of it, I can imagine how stressful a PhD can be! Do drop by often :)
Nice photos captured so aesthetically and beautifully :)
ReplyDeleteHi Madhu, as usual I thoroughly enjoyed the snaps. As usual, I have to commend your 'eye' for people photos. That is your forte', and you should do more and more of that.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures that I really enjoyed were
1. Snap 7: the B/W of a man in kurta-pyjamas walking in the middle of the street.
2. snap 10: the sadhu walking down the street. Very good colors, and great perspective. the tattoo(s) on his arm add a different dimension to the term 'sadhu'.
3. snap 12: amazing colors. yes, it is too busy, but IMHO - the 'busy'ness gives a great character to the snap.
Good luck and keep going.
cheers,
k
