Jaipur

I just got back from a holiday to Delhi and Jaipur with my family. It was fantastic, all I did was shop and take pictures! And eat, of course! Lots!

This post is going to be about Jaipur. Here's what I loved in the Pink City :)
The Hawa Mahal, of course :) It was built with all these window-like structures so that the queens could catch a view of what was happening outside on the streets :)
Elephants, elephants and elephants! Elephants go about this town like cars and buses!
The majestic palaces. This is the City Palace:

And this is the Amer Fort. Many scenes in Jodha Akbar were shot here:

Chai at dirty roadside dhabas :)
The Jantar Mantar. I loved, loved, loved it! The place probably appealed to the physicist in me, I don't know. I particularly liked the Rashivalayas - 12 observatories, one for each sun sign. Here's the painting on the Gemini observatory (I'm a Gemini ;-)):
I took similar pictures in all the 12 Rashivalayas. I'll put them up in a later post.
Arts and Crafts in Jaipur:
Ethnic footwear, usually in camel leather:
Bandhni (Tie and Dye)
Gem cutting and polishing:
Block printing:

The difficult part about such trips is getting back to the grind when the trip is over! I can't believe I have to go to work tomorrow! :(

  2. Oh, your post brings me back to one of my favorite places. Yes, it was a crazy city (so much going on!), but I loved Amer fort and Bapu Bazaar the best and the tea stalls and the elephants and pretty much everything else you wrote about.
Thank you for the mini-trip back there. It was fun.
    Take care,
    Shireena
